Sky Scaffolding Midlands Ltd are providing comprehensive scaffold services for the development of the all new luxury apartments at Lion Court, Northampton.
Project Overview
Lion Court is a seven storey development, which when completed will consist of 44 premium one and two bed apartments on the bank of the River Nene at Southbridge, including a luxurious penthouse with river views.
Sky Scaffolding were contacted by property and construction specialists Deeley Group to provide internal and external access scaffold to facillitate the construction works.
The development consists a steel frame construction with concrete floor planks, brick cladding and a steel partition system.
The premium apartments are being marketed to appeal to a younger demographic such as first time buyers, post-graduates and professionals attending the University of Northampton.
External Scaffolding
The external scaffold was constructed using traditional tube and fitting scaffold, with 11x 2.0m fully boarded lifts fully netted, access staircases and crane loading bays. The scaffold was erected in one operation following completion of the steel frame and concrete flooring.
The scaffold was tied to the steel frame using Apollo steelwork brackets which use teks screws to attach to the steel. Threaded bars are inserted into the bracket which span the cavity and minimise the impact on brickwork. During dismantle, the threaded bars are removed with the bracket sacrificed in the cavity.
The crane loading bays were staggered to permit loading from the crane at various levels.
The external scaffold totalled 1,340 linear metres, 140 tonnes of materials including 15km of tube and 10km of boards.
Internal Scaffolding
The majority of the internal scaffolding works were birdcages on the top floor level to facilitate the installation of the roof trusses. This large birdcage was constructed using traditional tube and fitting, covering a plan area of 670m2, with 40 tonnes of materials.
Other internal scaffolding workins included scaffold to lifts and service risers, edge protection to slabs and precast stairs, and internal blockwork scaffolds.
